Our family has been in the pork business since 1973 when Ed’s Dad started one of the first Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) herds in Ontario.   We have always maintained a high health herd. Since this has always been our mandate, it seems natural to us to market our product directly to the discerning consumer who is interested in eating wholesome, nutritious, vaccine and additive free pork… Just Pork!

 

We house our sows on straw in large pens, where they are free to root. Our sows birth their litters in farrowing stalls that allow them adequate movement, complete access to water and a balanced nutritional ration consisting of corn/barley, minerals, vitamins, and soy meal.

 

Because of the high health of our herd, our pigs do not receive any antibiotics or medications throughout their lifetime, nor are they fed any animal byproducts. Our pork is not subjected to added salt. Many meat processors have begun to “moisture-enhance” fresh pork with sodium phosphate, water and salt, pushing the added moisture to 18% (Anderson, Ontario Hog Farmer, March 2010). We believe this is an unnecessary addition of sodium to your meat, and our pork has none of these additives. The exception to this is our smoked hams and bacon, which are treated with a salt brine prior to being hickory smoked. Of course, ham and bacon are also available unsmoked.
